Origin Pilates
A sculpt mat Pilates studio with no walls: classes on beaches, cafe patios and mountain meadows around Northern Utah. The commission was the website. Beyond it I built a system that says, on every surface, where the mat goes down; it is marked below as an independent extension.
Part one
The commission
A mobile-first website for the studio, designed and built, live at origin-pilates.netlify.app.
01The website
The commission

The commission was a mobile-first site for Sharstin Miller's studio. The classes, prices and all seven reviews are the studio's own, word for word. Live times stay on Setmore, where people already book, and new dates drop on Instagram first.
02Where the mat goes down
Classes

Each class is a place first: the beach, the patio at Lotus Cafe, the mountain. Place, duration and price sit in one ruled table, and every class books straight into Setmore, where people already book. On a phone a bar with the lowest price and a booking button stays under the thumb.
03Seven reviews, word for word
Proof

The proof is the studio's own: seven five-star reviews from Setmore, set in full with the reviewer's name, one at a time. Nothing is shortened or reworded, and the 5.0 rating beside the headline comes from the same page.
04Field notes
Image and story

The site is mostly the studio's photographs, given room: a sideways strip of field notes, the owner's own story, and a last screen that asks people to come as they are. New class dates go out by email and on Instagram first, so the footer asks for an address and nothing else.
Part two
Independent extension
Not commissioned. A brand system built beyond the brief from what the studio already says about itself, shown with Sharstin Miller's permission. The sign, the emails and the booking flow are designs and a prototype; none has been produced or adopted.
05Two axes and a point
The system

The system starts from three things the studio already says: every class is alignment-focused, the studio is a mat, Origin has no walls. So every layout holds to a spine, rests on a mat line at 70 percent, and marks the place where the two cross, with the name of the place beside it.
06Marks, measured
Identity
Nothing new was drawn. The wordmark and the circle OP are the ones the site already uses, made into vector masters from what the site actually renders. Its font file carries only the weight axis, so the header shows weight 400 rather than the 420 in its markup; the masters follow the 400 and match the live header to the pixel.
07Held and released
Type and colour

Two settings, and both touch the spine: names held tight in the serif, everything else let go in spaced capitals, the way a class moves between effort and rest. One colour per place, taken from the covers of the studio's Instagram highlights.
08The floor is the mat line
Image direction

Real classes in real places, the studio's own photographs. Each is cropped so its own floor, shore or trail lands on the mat line, by a script that records every photograph's floor height, so any shape can be cut again.
09One axis at a time
Motion

Each element moves along one axis, never two, and nothing rotates, scales or bounces: the spine draws, the mat line meets it, the point is set down, the name slides into line, holds, and the supporting line lets go. Both films are rendered frame by frame from one scene, so every frame is the same every time.
10The marker
Signage, specification
The beach
The patio
The mountain
Private events

A studio with no walls needs one thing on the ground: a sign people can find from the car park. The marker is the origin point made physical, one A-frame and a panel per place, each generated from the same facts as everything else. It is specified for a sign shop's quote; it has not been made.
11The dull pieces
Operations

The pieces that reach someone after they book carry the system furthest. Every date, time and meeting spot is a field filled from the booking, and nothing invents a time. The waiver is a placeholder until the studio supplies its own text.
12Templates, not a posting plan
Social
Class drop
Origin stories
Three beliefs
The mountain season
Eleven templates for the feed and stories, every word taken from the studio's own site and every date left as a field. The reviews are set word for word, with the reviewer's name. Nothing has been posted; the studio posts its own.
13Find your mat
Booking

The four real offerings sit on the spine; choosing one releases its facts and a photograph of that place, its floor on the mat line. The last step hands off to Setmore, where times and payment already live. It is a prototype: it works, keyboard and all, but it has not replaced the studio's booking.

What you are looking at
The website at origin-pilates.netlify.app is the commissioned work; the captures in part one were taken live on 27 and 29 September 2026 and are unedited. The system beyond it was made by ÜMBE Studio and is shown with the permission of Sharstin Miller, the studio's owner. The photographs are the studio's own, by @kyleejo.photography and @l.redd.photography, and are shown with their permission. The sign, the slip and the emails are designs; none has been produced, and the booking flow is a prototype. Class names, prices and reviews are the studio's own; no times, headcounts or results were invented.
